Fernie is rapidly becoming a mountain biking mecca. It has facilities to suit all ranges and style of riding.
For the downhill rider Fernie Alpine Resort is continually improving its list of trails and offers full rentals on downhill equipment along with affordable day lift tickets. There are a host of downhill type classic rides in the Fernie area including Brad's Gay Trail, Three Kings, Big Money.
For cross country enthusiasts Fernie is the only venue to have hosted the ICU-sanctioned Transrockies in each of its 10 years and is now home to the excellent Furious3 race as well as numerous local races both downhill and cross country.
Fernie's vast network of single track and dual track has meant that the first three days of the world renowned Transrockies are now all in Fernie.
There are other day-long rides from Fernie into beautiful back country such as into the Wigwam, into the Bull River, up to Sparwood on the Coal Discovery Trail, or East in the Flathead.
For All Mountain riders, Fernie boats single track riding to rival the best of the west-coast with old rides like Verboten and Splitting Bears now joined with an array of superb ups and downs including Swine Flu, Project 9, Castle Rock and Hyper Ventilation. The Lodge is situated directly below the network of Castle trails.
For beginners and family riders, there is a pleasant network of river side trails all aorund Fernie, and also the vast extent of logging and gravel trails west to Island Lake, east into Coal Creek, south down the River Road to Morrissey, and North to Sparwood.
The Lodge's two resident staff are both mountain bike instructors and the Lodge manager is a Transrockies veteran and placed top 10 in the 24Hrs of Adrenalin World Solo Championships. If you wish to organise a mountain bike based trip for a large group, you cannot go wrong with Elk View Lodge and its knowledgable and enthusiastic staff.
