Fernie is without doubt one of the best skiers' resorts in North America. It offers excellent family and beginner slopes but comes into its own for the advanced skier.
The steep and deep skiing available at the Fernie Alpine Resort is challenging yet as safe as possible due to their vast investment into avalanche prevention and control. A local completed 75,000 vertical feet last April during normal lift opening and skiing on his own! Not the usual day's outing, but it shows that when it snows deep, you will get even more steep terrain skiing than at heli skiing operations - and at a fraction of the price.
All that said, skiing is never a cheap past-time, and thus it is always a good option to have a wonderful base to return to or to simply relax all day. We frequently get groups where not all members wish to ski every day, and some prefer snowshoeing or cross country, cook, read, shop, drink coffee, take a sauna.........that is when Elk View Lodge comes into its own.
With unrivalled views of the ski hill and far more natural light with its West-facing aspect, our guests can enjoy Apres-ski outside on the decks in relative sun-drenched warmth - even after the last lift has closed.
Fernie's old town is a lovely place to wander and relax, it has numerous quality stores offering a range of goods from ski apparel, through artisan products, fine cheeses, luxury furniture, restaurants, bars and coffee shops.
Actually, the list of what to spend your $85 lift ticket saving on is mouthwatering...one could get a massage at the lodge, enjoy lunch at the Arts Station, buy some hand made chocolates at the Bean Pod chocolate factory, have a mid-afternoon cookie and coffee at Freshies, try some afternoon curling, or a skate at the community ice rink and still have money left over to sample some wines at the Picnic brasserie.
We are finding that more and more visitors are coming to Fernie not just to ski.....and Fernie and the Lodge have made great efforts to provide the amenities to reward those travellers.
For snowmobiling guests, the Lodge is the perfect base. It has the scale to accommodate vehicles and trailers, it has direct access to the network of sledding trails east of Fernie, and it has ample on-site amenities for others in your group to relax.
We can also arrange snowmobile trips for our guests who wish to sample the exhiliration of sledding in a controlled manner with experienced guides.
